What a crock of plastic sh*t. Coca-Cola and its subsidiaries worldwide sell nearly 4,000 plastic bottles every second. The plastic molecule never breaks down, and they've known that for well over half a century. That's why Coke is a proud founding member of Keep America Beautiful, the most effective greenwashing organization on the planet. I was alarmed by this ad - oh, boy, let's make even more plastic to give the impression that we care. Then I noticed that this post is 9 years old so it obviously didn't take off. The very concept of recycling plastic has been a lie from the start. 95% of the plastic that goes to recycling centers ends up going to landfills. So today Coke has the audacity to promote their "Every Bottle Back" campaign. Like this and so many other programs that they know will never work, it was unveiled with great fanfare and will die a quiet death. The only way to get Coke et al to change their ways is through educating the public. This will lead to either enough public awareness that Coke will finally see plastic as hurting their bottom line or, more likely, there will finally be enough public support for desperately needed legislation. Meanwhile, Coke will continue to support Keep America Blindfolded from one pocket while paying lobbyists from the other pocket to keep things like return-for-deposit glass bottles off the table ...All this while plastic production doesn't just hold steady - it continues to increase.
